So it is the final day. We have apparently worked the youth group so hard, they are too tired to type a blog! It’s either that or all of the S’Mores Shannan has forced them to eat!
Yesterday, everyone worked so hard getting the flat roof off the garages. We also started on the pitched roof. Shelby and Jasmine were the brave ones to go up the ladder and start scraping the shingles off the roof. Lily was carting the shingles to the dumpster. When the shingles were all off, the girls were able to help Varga in the garden again. They were excited about this because Varga is so nice!
Meanwhile, the boys continued to demolish the flat roofs. Things seemed to be going much quicker…maybe because our bodies are starting to get used the hard work!
We met with Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb who talked with us about the connections between humanitarianism and Judaism. In the evening, Rob talked about the labyrinth and how they were used in the early churches. We walked the labyrinth and used the time to reflect and meditate. We ended our night with card games and a lot of laughing.
Today: the boys will be demolishing the pitched roof (last one!!!). We are so far ahead of schedule that we are able to expand the scope of our work and do other jobs Stony Point needs done: painting porches, weeding etc.
I can say that I, and Shannan and Rob, are truly amazed at how hard the kids have worked and how much they have accomplished. I have had a lot of fun with them this week. I still have muscles, ones I didn’t know I had, but still had fun! You should be very proud of your kids. We are!
